You don’t see a lot of family oriented shows at the London Fringe Festival. 2 For Tea is one exceptional production that fits that bill.
Physical comedic actors, James and Jamesy, captivated us with their stage antics from start to finish. Both are trained as clowns, but they have created distinct characters, without red noses, that will capture your heart. The narrative is simple...a tea party. You will have to attend to see the rest of the story.
They bill the show as a cast of six, as James & Jamesy pull four audience members into the act. At first, I felt that some of the audience members were plants, since the show went on without a hitch. I knew the audience members were not plants, when I recognized my high school accounting teacher on stage. This is a testament to their strong improv skills.
This solid production also uses all aspects of a full theatrical production. There are plenty of sound and light cues. This is a tough endeavour for a touring Fringe show, since you have to rely on local tech people who don’t get a lot of time to work with you. The tech, along with costuming and props, always kept me clearly in the narrative.
There is only one show remaining, June 15th at 1:30pm. Don’t miss this opportunity to see a very funny and intimate show!
Tea is served, so don’t forget to bring your teacup.
